DEEP Study: Utility of the multidimensional pain inventory in persistent oro‐facial pain
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Persistent oro-facial pain (POFP) is disabling, and patients’ treatment outcomes are difficult to predict; psychosocial factors play a role. The West Haven-Yale Multidimensional Pain Inventory (MPI) self-report measure, which our knowledge, has not been studied across primary secondary care in heterogeneous POFP. Objective Assess the MPI’s ability predict clinical outcome POFP patients settings receiving usual care. Methods About 146 for were recruited from medical dental practices north-east England. Participants completed MPI (v3) Graded Chronic Scale (GCPS) at recruitment, after 6, 12, 18 24 months. Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4) was ‘Good’ ‘poor’ status assigned participants based on their mode dichotomised GCPS score timepoints. Logistic regression used with overall (good/poor) as dependent variable subscale scores, demographic variables, PHQ-4 scores predictors. Results 110 had ‘good’, 36 outcome. In group, age, mean income, life control lower; deprivation, months pain, PHQ-4, severity, interference, affective distress higher. ‘good’ improved over time. Interference only consistent predictor of logistic model (OR: 1.14–1.98, p < 0.05). Conclusion interference may help identify who likely have pain-related disability time; it therefore be useful clinically need early intervention.

متن کاملOrofacial Pain.
The first dilemma of facial pain patients is “who to consult”? Is this a dental problem or a medical one and who will be able to treat it most appropriately? There is no doubt that the dental conditions described by Renton in her first article are best managed by dentists. However, when patients present with persistent pain after dental surgery or due to other causes the boundaries become less ...
